Vacancy: Deputy Manager

Our Deputy Manager is moving up in their career so we have an exciting opportunity for a new Deputy Manager in our small, friendly setting. The right person for this position will be caring and creative, a great team player, show initiative, have great communication skills when interacting with parents, children, committee and staff members. They will be imaginative, competent at planning and carrying out suitable activities tailored to the child's individual needs, experienced, highly motivated with good literacy and numeracy skills. Previous early years is essential but management experience is not required.

Hours per week: 26 hours, 8.25am-3.15pm, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, term time only, occasional evening trainings, potentially hours could be negotiated slightly.

Salary: £9.10 - £10 per hour basic rate (depending on experience)

Reporting to:  Pre-School Manager

Purpose of the job: To lead on planning the early years curriculum at Elsworth Pre-School and to deputise one day per week and when necessary for the Pre-School Manager. To provide safe, high quality education and care for young children which meets the individual needs of children attending the setting.

Main duties

  1. To lead on planning of the curriculum including creative and fun learning opportunities and activities tailored to the individual needs of children at the Pre-School using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum for guidance.

  2. To deputise for the Manager one day per week and in the Manager’s absence.

  3. To set up the playroom(s) for the daily programme and to help tidy away at the end of the session.

  4. To act as a key person to a group of children, liaising closely and building an effective relationship with parents/carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met.

  5. Work in partnership with parents/carers and other family members.

  6. To advise the Pre-school Manager of any concerns e.g. over children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.

  7. To take action to support the setting to achieve and maintain a minimum good Ofsted rating at the next inspection.

  8. To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulating play experiences.

  9. To ensure that children are kept safe and that you understand when to follow child protection procedures.

  10. To support lunch time within the setting.

  11. To actively participate at team meetings, supervisor meetings and appraisal meetings.

  12. To attend training courses as required and to take responsibility for your development.

  13. To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff, which is acquired as part of the job.

  14. To be aware of and adhere to all the setting’s operational policies and procedures

  15. To ensure that adequate records are kept and updated regularly.

  16. To write a weekly newsletter on the activities undertaken and future plans and put appropriate updates on Pre-School Facebook site.

  17. To promote the setting to current parents and potential customers.

  18. To comply with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation

  19. To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Pre-School Manager, in accordance with the setting’s business plan/objectives.

Person specification

Essential criteria

  1. Enthusiastic and love working with children and extending their learning,

  2. Creative with the ability to plan activities tailored to the child's individual needs

  3. Ability to show initiative and be proactive

  4. Level 3 Early Years education and childcare qualification or equivalent.

  5. At least two years recent experience of working with Pre-School age children.

  6. Sound knowledge of child development for children from birth to five years.

  7. Good knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Ofsted requirements and childcare legislative policies.

  8. Knowledge of child protection procedures.

  9. Good communication skills.

  10. Good literacy and numeracy skills

  11. An understanding of play based approaches to children’s learning and development.

  12. Commitment to equal opportunities.

  13. Commitment to working effectively with young children and families.

  14. Willingness to learn.

  15. Friendly and flexible approach at work which facilitates the development of effective relationships.

 

Desirable criteria

  1. Willingness to undertake further training.

  2. Experience of leading a team.

  3. Current 12 hour Paediatric First Aid qualification.

  4. Child protection designated person experience or training.

  5. SENCo and/or ENCo trained.

  6. Forest School Qualification.

Bank Staff: Pre-School Assistant

We don't use agency staff at Elsworth Pre-School but we are looking for lovely people to join our bank staff of relief workers to assist when staff cover is needed and get to know the setting and children.

Job title: Pre-school Assistant (Bank staff)

Hours: As required, term time only: Relief work in full or half day sessions between 8.55-11.55am and 11.55am-2.55pm Monday to Thursday, 8.55am – 11.55pm Fridays

Salary: £7.50 - £8.50 per hour depending on qualifications and experience

8. To advise the Manager of any concerns e.g. health and well-being of children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.

9. To be aware of and adhere to all the setting’s operational policies and procedures, e.g. health and safety, fire precautions, dropping off and collection of children, food safety, cleanliness of the setting.

10.To promote the setting to current parents and potential customers.

11. To comply with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Act

12. To ensure that adequate records are kept and updated regularly as appropriate

13. To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Pre-school Manager, in accordance with the setting’s business plan/objectives.
